Vermont State Park. Frais d'accès : Gratuit. Ouvert annuellement. Chiens permis.
Altitude de 1020 m. D+ 650 m environ. Niveau intermédiaire.
Accès : stationnement gratuit au nord de la route 118.
Randonnée linéaire d'environ 9 km via le sentier "Long Trail".
Du stationnement, vous devrez suivre les indications pour le sentier Long Trail Nord afin de rejoindre le sommet du mont Belvidere. Bien balisé par des marques blanches sur les arbres (parfois difficiles à voir en hiver), ce sentier offre une montrée soutenue, plus ardue au 2/3 de la montée. Tout près du sommet, vous croiserez une intersection où vous devrez suivre à votre droite les indications pour le sentier Forester's Trail (balise bleu).
Au sommet partiellement boisé, vous apercevrez une tour de feu d'environ 50 pieds de haut. Du haut de cette tour, vous pourrez apercevoir une mine d'amiante et le superbe panorama sur les Montagnes Vertes. Quelle vue 360 degré!
En été, le sentier peut être boueux sur sa première moitié et vous devriez entendre un superbe ruisseau couler.
Particulièrement heureuse d'avoir visiter cet endroit, accompagnée de mon amoureux, comme baptême pour mes prochaines ascensions aux USA.

Linear hike of approximately 9 km via the "Long Trail".
From the parking lot, you will need to follow the signs for the Long Trail North trail to reach the top of Mount Belvidere. Well marked by white marks on the trees (sometimes difficult to see in winter), this trail offers a sustained climb, more difficult 2/3 of the way up. Very close to the summit, you will come across an intersection where you will have to follow the signs for the Forester's Trail to your right (blue marker).
At the partially wooded top you will spot a fire tower about 50 feet high. From the top of this tower, you can see an asbestos mine and the superb panorama of the Green Mountains. What a 360 degree view!
In the summer the trail can be muddy for its first half and you should hear a great stream flowing.
Particularly happy to have visited this place, accompanied by my lover, as a baptism for my next ascents in the USA.
